Fragrance Story

MISTPOUFFER attempts to capture this elusive “water thunder” in scent. Developed over four years and hundreds of iterations, the fragrance exists between the familiar and unexplained: foggy without being aquatic, smoky without becoming heavy, and natural while somehow supernatural. Mysterious and difficult to define, it is an olfactory impression of something sensed in the distance but never quite understood.

Inspiration

MISTPOUFFER takes its name from an unexplained natural phenomenon: mysterious, cannon-like booms heard emerging from the fog over lakes and rivers around the world. Known as uminari, or “cries from the sea,” in Japan, these sounds have inspired legends for centuries. Even Connecticut’s Machimoodus takes its name from an Indigenous term associated with the area's mysterious noises. Despite numerous scientific theories—from seismic activity and escaping gas to atmospheric forces—the true source of the phenomenon remains unknown.
