Fragrance Story

Gong is an unexpected interpretation of a gourmand fragrance, where sparkling citrus meets the comforting warmth of Japanese confectionery.

The composition opens with vibrant yuzu and Italian mandarin, their refreshing brightness accented by pink pepper. At its heart lies an unusual dorayaki accord, inspired by the traditional Japanese pancake confection. Its delicate sweetness is contrasted by black pepper, creating an intriguing balance of warmth and freshness.

As the fragrance settles, Siam benzoin introduces a smooth, resinous richness, complemented by guaiac wood, sandalwood and vetiver. The result is a sophisticated amber fragrance with a subtle gourmand character—warm and comforting without becoming overly sweet.

Inspiration

In Japanese culture, the sound of a gong can mark a moment of ceremony, inviting reflection, harmony and stillness. Floraïku draws on this symbolism to celebrate the beauty of slowing down and appreciating life's simplest pleasures.

The inspiration also connects to dorayaki, the traditional Japanese confection whose name is associated with the gong. According to legend, the warrior monk Benkei left his gong behind at a farmer's home, where it was later used to cook the pancakes that would become dorayaki.
